Conference “Welcome to Cortina d’Ampezzo” at the Grand Hotel Savoia in Cortina - September 21 to 22, 2023
Towards a “new mountain”. The welcoming at high altitudes makes a paradigm shift: industry stakeholders share ideas about a future increasingly less related to the snow.
The hospitality sector at high altitudes enters the future. New trends are raising and seasonal trends are fading, projected beyond the historical dependence from snow. The sector is aware of having to create a new durable hospitality in line with the great potentials of these territories, that need to be assisted to restart in the light of the deseasonalization of the offer, which in turn has to be enriched with history, sport, culture, art and regional food and wine specialties.
The works of “Welcome to Cortina”, second 2023 conference of WG-Welcoming Gate projects & development derived from this assumption: the world of mountain tourism is rapidly changing and Italy is once again led to demonstrate that it is “the most beautiful country in the world”. In order to be so, the images of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites and other wonderful locations at high altitude are no longer enough, we need to keep up with the times and present new ideas, ride international trends and offering an excellent hospitality in every aspect.
Two were the main topics of these two days.
On the first day, September 21, we talked about how the next big events, in which Italy will play a major role, will open the doors to many renewal and development opportunities, not only for the hotel industry but for all tourism professionals. Opportunities and challenges that Cortina will face along with the competitiveness of the city at international level.
On September 22, the second day, we talked about the topic design for all, related to Cortina as the hosting venue of Paralympic and Winter Olympic Games. The focus is not only the opening towards a public of disabled people but accessibility for all, no matter the conditions of everyone. It is a change in the paradigm that leads to real inclusiveness.
